GoodBye to Rail Engine Featured in Chal Chaiyya Chaiyya Song of Shahrukh Khan Movie Dil Se

Bollywood Actor Shahrukh Khan's Film 'Dil Se' Song Chal Chaiyya Chaiyya people enjoyed a lot. The song was shot on the roof of the goods train. The goods train was powered by a WDM-3 engine, which runs on diesel. Now this engine is going to become history. Now it can be seen only in movies. Railway has issued an order to shut down these engines.

The song was shot on a moving train at Ooty (Udhagamandalam) in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) is one of the oldest mountain railways in India and was declared by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in July 2005. The train was specially painted brown for this song. Shah Rukh Khan did not use a safety harness while the filming the sequence aboard the moving train for this song.
In the 1998 made Romantic thriller film Dil Se, in which the song was filmed on the roof of the train, Black smoke can be also seen coming out of the engine in it. The engine also made headlines with the song Chhaiya Chhaiya. Diesel consumption is high in this and Smoke emits pollution.
On the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Railways has decided to shut down this engine. Railway Board Executive Director (TR) Manish Jain has issued the letter on 14 August. It states that the engine WDM-3, built 31 years ago, will be permanently shut down. It will not run on the Indian Railways track from 1st October. Only modern engines will run in its place.

Indian Railways has 12 thousand diesel and electric engines. In which there are six thousand diesel engines. 350 engines are over 31 years old. Northern Railway has 47 engines in it.

The WDM-3 engine has a capacity of 3,000 horsepower (hp). It can haul 16 coacher trains easily. It costs six litres of diesel for 1 km. 70 liters of diesel is consumed when the engine is standing for 1 hour, while now 4500/5500 hp modern engines run with a freight train of 40 coaches. These engine runs 1 km in 4 litres. On standing, 20 litres of diesel is consumed in 1 hour. Modern diesel engines also do not cause much pollution.

The Railway Board has prohibited the running of the engine made 31 years ago. This engine has not come in Moradabad Railway Division after the official order issued. Instead, modern engines are hauling goods and passenger trains.
