Railways Preparing to hand over this Shatabdi Express to Private Operators

January 19, 2020
Chandigarh: The Ministry of Railways is preparing to hand over 150 trains running across the country in private hands. NITI Aayog has proposed to make 10-12 clusters to privatize 150 trains on 100 routes. Chandigarh has been included in the third cluster, which includes Shatabdi which run 6 days a week on the Chandigarh-New Delhi route and Chandigarh-Sultanpur route trains.  However, this project is currently received by Railway.

Railways has started working on it. If this project rises, then the World Class Train facilities will be provided to passengers. In this, the speed of trains has to be increased 160 kmph. For this, the Cabinet has passed the proposal to run trains at the speed of 160 kmph on Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai routes. However, for the 160 kmph speed between Chandigarh and Delhi, the team of France Railway has submitted a feasibility report. Work on this will start this year. As far as the Chandigarh-Delhi route is concerned, it has been said that in the present time Shatabdi Express will be
made private. It is not yet decided whether Shatabdi will be made private or a new train will be replaced and it will be handed over to private operators.

Probably a big announcement can be made about this in budget. In the roadmap prepared by the Railways, only the private operators will ensure cleanliness, safety of passengers, food and cleanliness in the train. All this will be of world class level. Fare will be also decided according to the facilities provided by the private operators. The project will currently take a year to complete. But the railway has started preparations.

But there is no doubt that the railway is working on such a proposal.  Railways will charge private operators to run trains on the track km/hr. The private operator will charge money from passengers for ticket booking.

After handing over the train to private hands, the seats of the train will be luxury. Apart from this, every seat will also have a computer screen, WiFi, Audio Sound for entertainment, passengers will be able to enjoy their journey. Apart from this, the speed of the train will be 160 kmph. Each coach will have vacuum bio toilets. Indian Railways: Blue Print Prepared for 150 Private Trains, will run on these routes

January 16, 2020
The way to run private trains has been cleared. Private operators will run 150 trains. In which, a dozen private trains will pass through Lucknow on Howrah - Delhi route. At the same time, a train will run between Lucknow to Mumbai, which will be like Tejas Express. Railways is planning to run two private trains from Guwahati to outside the Northeast. For this, private operators will have to buy rakes. Railways will have to pay for taking services from railway personnel like loco pilots, guards including maintenance charges. The work has been started to check the feasibility of this.

It is worth noting that on 4 October 2019, the country's first corporate train Tejas Express started. IRCTC was handed over its command. The Railway Board was earlier in the mood to hand over this train to private hands, but with the aim of gapining experience, IRCTC was given the command to operate. Now the Railway Board has prepared a blueprint for running 150 private trains. They will give these trains entirely in private hands. For this, preparations are being made at Railway Zonal and Divisional Level.
There is a discussion on the problems faced during the operation. Discussions are from revenue to passenger facilities are being discussed. According to Railway Board officials, companies operating these private trains will have to buy rakes. They will also get the option to import coaches from abroad. Since the tracks belong to the Ministry of Railways, the operators have to pay the fare for running their own private trains on these tracks. Apart from this, private operators will have to pay to the Railways to avail flacilities ranging from house keeping staff to loco pilots, guards, maintenance staff. Railway officials are deliberating on every aspect of how far private operators will have access and where railway intervention will be there.

Private operators will run 150 trains, which will run on two major routes of the country. These routes areelhi to Howrah and Delhi to Mumbai. The Railway station of Lucknow -Kanpur Central falls on the Delhi-Howrah route. This will allow private trains to pass through here. This will provide relief to the passengers. However, the railway will run a train like Tejas Express between Lucknow to Mumbai, whose operation will be in private hands. Modern LHB Coaches Arrangement in these Mail/Express trains of SECR

January 11, 2020
Railway Board periodically amends the arrangement of additional coaches for passengers keeping in mind the congestion occurring in different categories of Express trains. Similarly, LHB coaches are being provided in 18203/04 Durg-Kanpur-Durg-Betwa Express and 18201/02 Durg-Nautanwa-Durg Express. LHB coaches have been replaced by old conventional ICF coaches.
These LHB coaches are safer during major accident, less casualties occur, significantly more comfortable, better look and have more seats than conventional ICF coaches. Since LHB coaches have more berths than ICF coaches, the number of sleeper coaches are less in these trains.

The Chenab Bridge was originally intended to be completed in December 2009. However, in September 2008 the project was halted due to fears over the bridge's stability and safety. Work on the bridge restarted in 2010 with the plan to complete it in 2015.
